In November 1996, CBHS separated from the Bank, changing its name to CBHS Friendly Society. |

No longer compulsory for CBA staff to join the Health Society, and membership became open to current and retired staff. |

The Commonwealth Bank Health Society, as CBHS was originally known, was established 1st January by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) to provide cost effective, quality health care for all staff. Registered as a Friendly Society from its establishment date, membership of the Health Society was compulsory for all CBA staff and was subsidised by the bank. |
