Federal Government Rebate on Private Health Insurance

The Federal Government Rebate on Private Health Insurance is designed to make private health insurance cover as affordable as possible for more Australians by reducing the amount you pay for premiums by at least 30%.

Lifetime Health Cover

Lifetime Health Cover (LHC) is a Government initiative designed to encourage people to take out private hospital cover earlier in life, and to maintain their cover. Under LHC, health funds are required to charge a loading based on the age of each particular member when they first take out hospital cover with a registered health insurer.

Medicare Levy Surcharge

The Medicare Levy Surcharge (MLS) is an additional 1% surcharge of taxable income imposed on higher income earners who are eligible for Medicare but do not have private patient hospital cover with a private health insurer.
