hospital cover

why have hospital cover?

  • Choice of specialist/doctor
Our hospital covers provide you with the option to choose the doctor or specialist you want, giving you greater freedom and choice for your health care.
  • Emergency ambulance transport
All CBHS hospital covers include cover for state emergency ambulance services when transported directly to hospital or treated at the scene due to a medical emergency.
  • Access Gap Cover
Many people admitted to hospital as private patients can find themselves faced with out-of-pocket expenses, or 'gaps'. Access Gap Cover (AGC) is a medical gap cover arrangement designed to minimise or eliminate out-of-pocket expenses for medical procedures conducted in hospitals or day surgery facilities as an admitted patient.

  • Daily co-payment options to lower your contributions
You can reduce the cost of your hospital cover by agreeing to pay a daily co-payment of $70 or $100. This means if you are admitted to hospital you will pay the relevant daily co-payment each day that you are hospitalised up to a maximum of 6 days per person, or 12 days per family per calendar year.

  • Medicare Levy Surcharge
The Medicare Levy Surcharge is an additional 1% surcharge of taxable income imposed on higher income earners who are eligible for Medicare but do not have  Hospital Cover with a private health insurer.

  • Access to private hospitals
We hold agreements with an extensive range of private hospitals and day surgeries. These agreements ensure that certain hospital fees including bed fees, theatre and labour ward fees, intensive and coronary care fees are covered as an admitted patient in hospital, subject to your level of cover.
  • Access to public hospitals
All CBHS hospital covers provide benefits for treatment with your choice of doctor in a public hospital.
