Non-Medicare Benefit Services
Some services such as surgical podiatry, laser eye surgery, cosmetic and plastic surgery do not attract a benefit from Medicare. Limited Benefits
Some CBHS covers pay limited benefits for certain treatments. These covers have lower contribution rates than comprehensive covers.
If you have Comprehensive Hospital Cover this section does not apply to you.
If you have Limited Hospital or Basic Hospital, see the appropriate section below.
Limited Hospital
The following types of services pay limited benefits on Limited Hospital when services are received in a Private Hospital or day surgery:
- Pregnancy and obstetrics;
- Reproductive surgery;
- Cardiothoracic services;
- Psychiatric, rehabilitation and palliative care;
- Major eye surgery;
- Major joint replacement; and
- Plastic and cosmetic surgery.
If you are receiving one of these treatments in a private hospital, you will experience significant out-of-pocket expenses.
Limited Hospital Cover pays limited benefits toward accommodation fees for these services, and no benefits for theatre, labour ward and intensive care fees. Please contact the CBHS Member Care Centre on 1300 654 123 for more information.
If you are receiving treatment for these services in a Public Hospital, you are covered for accommodation in a shared room, intensive care, theatre and labour ward fees.
Basic Hospital
All services are limited to public hospital benefits under Basic Hospital. This cover only provides the benefit of choosing a doctor in a public hospital. If you intend to receive treatment in a Private Hospital or a private room of a Public Hospital, you will have significant out-of-pocket expenses.
