Australia Day – Slip, Slop, Slap

06 October, 2014

This year’s Australia Day will no doubt be the usual mix of fun, sun, sand and surf. With some great events happening nation-wide, it’s also important to keep your head straight and think about your health and safety during the national holiday. As a day that is traditionally spent outdoors soaking up the sunshine, it’s important not to let your sun safety slip this Australia Day. Wear a hat to protect your face, head and neck, and remember to apply SPF 30+ sunscreen, and reapply every two hours. Wear sun-protective clothing where possible, and if you’re looking for a place to sit down and soak up the atmosphere make sure it’s in the shade.

Australia Day is known for it’s barbeques – almost above all else – and this year Brisbane is offering up Great Australian Bites. It’s a showcase of contemporary Australian BBQ, complete with live cooking stations and some of Queensland’s best produce ready for the tasting.

Not to be outdone, the annual Australia Day Celebrations are taking place as usual in Riverway, Thuringowa, courtesy of the Townsville City Council. Beginning with a 7:30am Fun Run, there are several ceremonies throughout the day, as well as plenty of entertainment from local bands and children’s entertainers. New South Wales is also getting active this coming Australia Day. Climb Kosie On Aussie Day will kick off at 8am on Sunday 26 January at Thredbo Resort. At the summit of Mt Kosciuszko, Australian classics ‘The Man from Snowy River’ and ‘My Country’ will be recited, before heading back to the village for plenty of entertainment.

As usual, this Australia Day can also be a time to make an Australian Citizenship Affirmation – a way of reaffirming one’s citizenship by making an affirmation based upon the pledge made by new Australian citizens. Anyone can participate, and active members of local communities lead most Affirmation Ceremonies. There are also several Citizenship Ceremonies being held this Australia Day.

Remember that this year Australia Day (26th January) falls on a Sunday, so the following Monday 27thJanuary is a public holiday.

What Our Members Think

I joined as a CBHS member in 1978. Through many health events and challenges CBHS has always been there for me and my family. Their exceptional service over this time has always been appreciated.

What Our Members Think

I've not long joined CBHS from another fund, but so far I've been impressed by the super helpful and friendly staff, the higher claim limits and rebates at a very competitive premium, and how easy it is to lodge manual claims through the app. Thanks CBHS - you've won me over! 😃

What Our Members Think

I have been with CBHS since I began at CBA 15 years ago...Now I have three beautiful children, one who has a disability. Our top extras cover has been really essential for his early intervention. I do love the ease of claiming online.

What Our Members Think

I am relatively new to CBHS and am loving it already. I worked for a CBA subsidiary a long time ago but was still eligible to join. So much better that the for-profit funds - our premium is only a little more and we pay a lower co-contribution and get great benefits. I am loving the massage rebate for my partner and gym rebate for me!

I'm extremely happy with CBHS! I have been a customer for about six years. I think the price is reasonable. And i would refer you to my family and friends any day. Thank you CBHS!!!

What Our Members Think

Love CBHS as I never have to doubt that they've got my back when I need it. Been through other insurers who have limited options or limits, yet cost the same or more.
