A long history as a leading not for profit health fund

  • Originally known as The Commonwealth Bank Health Society, CBHS was established on January 1, 1951 by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) to provide cost effective, quality healthcare for all current employees of the CBA Group.
  •  In August 1996 we extended our membership eligibility to include ex-CBA employees (in addition to current employees). In the same year, we separated from the Bank, changing our name to the CBHS Friendly Society.
  •  In 2007, we opened our membership eligibility to immediate family members - including siblings, parents, grandparents and dependants of CBA Group current and former employees – before changing our name to CBHS Health Fund Limited.
  • In 2014, the Minister approved changes to the Private Health Registration Rules related to eligibility for a number of funds including CBHS Health Fund. Following these changes, contractors and franchisees of the CBA Group are also eligible to join.
